CLASS
This is
the first step for young riders. Partcipants from 7-18 years,
from all economic levels and communities, enjoy a free,
first-time velodrome Intro Course! It is different than riding
on pavement (partcipants must be able to ride a bike) but you
will learn the basics of safe cycling, and getting "on track" on
a banked surface in a world-class velodrome, just like the
Olympic athletes. The desire to race is not necessary - only the
desire to ride, learn and have fun! Each Start Line course
consisits of four 2hr classes.
Students wishing to continue beyond the Start Line course will
join the LA84 Connie Cycling Peloton, an ongoing pathway to
higher levels of cycling.
Peloton
After the Start Line program, participants who wish to continue
join the Peloton program, an on-going pathway to higher levels
of cycling. Workouts are scheduled one to three times per week
at the Home Depot Center velodrome.
The focus in the Peloton is on bicycle handling skills and the
fundamentals of bicycle racing. Athletes will learn to ride
various positions on the banked track, individually and in a
pack. Students will be grouped according to cycling skill level
and ability during practices by expert coaches and follow the
group practice schedule.
Athletes in the Peloton are skillfully guided through the
various stages of development; continuing to learn the
fundamentals of cycling as well as more advanced competitive
skills. Athletes are challenged while at the same time allowed
to progress at their own pace. The Peloton provides the best
possible environment and group mix, enabling athletes to improve
and enjoy the process.
Besides the on-bike skills, coaches integrate off-bike
exercises, activities and games, to enrich the program and help
athletes learn. Olympian values of excellence, friendship, and
respect are made meaningful through activities within the
program. Strength of character is equally as important as
physical strength in the Connie Cycling LA84 Peloton program.
Racing
The Jr. RACER program is designed to build the engine of the
athlete. This program will teach advanced skills in all cycling
disciplines on the track and road racing.
Focus
of the classes:
•
Experience riding a competition track

handling skills

"My goal is to provide a program that
enhances a child's health and physical abilities and encourages
them to strive for their own personal best. Not only do they
learn new cycling skills but participants will also learn about
things like fair play, perseverance, and camaraderie." -
